We are collecting for Preen, who provide Emergency Food Assistance for people living in Central Bedfordshire.
If you feel you can donate any staples, toiletries or cleaning materials, Preen would be very grateful. Treats can make a big difference, especially children’s treats, even more so around Christmas. Multi-packet bags of sweets, biscuits or crisps, as long as they’re individually wrapped inside, can be split up and some put in each food parcel.
Food that can be microwaved: tinned meals such as curries or stews are popular, as they take a short time to cook, reducing energy bills, a big factor for many to consider currently.
Personal care items: all the essentials are required – toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, sanitary products, nappies, shaving foam and razors, as well as cleaning products.
What not to donate: no selection boxes, mince pies or Christmas puddings as these are donated by a supermarket. No alcohol or food containing alcohol either, please.
A polite reminder to check dates last until the 28th December for Christmas grocery items.
If you prefer to donate money to Preen, you can do this direct to their bank; details are on the Preen Reverse Advent Calendar displayed by each box and on kitchen notice boards.
I will be collecting until Wednesday 14th December and donations can be placed in the boxes in Enterprise and Capability House.
Thank you in advance, Alison Newnham, Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire, Room 120, Capability House Ext. 3475
